Program Description

Week 1: Data Analysis

Learn data analysis methods through hands-on experience in analyzing sequential and spatial data using statistical tools. Learn to carry out frequency and pattern analyses for understanding data in sciences, engineering, business and health.

Weekend Tour


Triangle area college tours hosted by Duke, UNC, NCSU faculty and graduate students. Learn about top universities in the area and the application process and requirements

Week 2: Mobile IT & Visualization

Learn scientific visualization and animation tools to create 1D-3D visualization and animation from observed and simulated data. Develop mobile Apps for real-world applications. Students learn to create iOS or Android Apps in class.

Weekend Tour

Coastal image

Understanding the impact of anthropogenic and natural causes on the sustainability of coastal ecosystem and economy. Exploring the wetlands, beaches, marine life and ecosystem.

Week 3: Applications

Apply data analysis technics and visualization tools to study real-world sustainability issues, such as natural hazards, renewable energy, air and water quality, socio-economic sustainability.

Weekend Tour

Images of Capital

American politics and culture: a visit to the capital of the United States guided by local faculty and students. Tour the capital and the museums and learn about American history, culture and politics. 

Extended Mentoring (optional)

Following the 3 week summer camp, students will be paired with experienced mentors to complete a technical report that can be published in peer-reviewed journals, presented at conferences, or submitted for student science competitions.
